Free Eulogy papers, so sad today essays, and research papers. My father died a week ago today.
He had a profound impact on the life I live today and on the person I became. The relationship between a son and a father can often be quite complicated. I was blessed to have a rather simple, yet powerful and loving, relationship with my dad. And because I believe that at Fast Company we have created a community of friends, not mere readers with little connection to our magazine, I want to share the eulogy I delivered at his funeral on Saturday.
My father was a hard man to dislike. Before I begin I would like to thank all of you here on behalf of my mother, my brother and myself, for your efforts large and small to be here today, to help us mark my fathers passing. I am honoured to be here. I am honoured to be here to speak to you all. I am honoured to be here to speak to you about my father. Each of you here had your own relationship with my Dad, each of you has your own set of memories and your own word picture that describes this man.
I don’t presume to know the man that you knew. I noticed the lines of my face and the curve of my neck. I looked down at my hands remembering the moment I first realized that they looked like hers. Long, thin, delicate hands perfect for playing the piano or braiding cornrows. All my life I had not noticed until the day I sat at her bedside holding her hand in mine. She had told me that she was not afraid to die. We sat in silence for a long time, sometimes sharing a stare and a smile.
