A colonial mansion, a hereditary estate, I would say a haunted house, and reach the height of romantic felicity,—but that would be asking too much of fate! This selection may be photocopied and distributed for classroom or educational use. Exceptional depiction of a mind gone wrong by a person who got her mind back to clarity–with a strong depiction of people who won’t recognize the emotional and psychological hazards of life. This is an important story.

Also fun as a horror story. How good can you get. I read this many decades ago, forgot it completely, and felt goosebumps all over again. This time tho I better appreciated Gilman’s pacing.
