After the first world war there were many changes to the way Americans lived their lives.
During this time industry boomed and unemployed people now held jobs. The economy was growing, people were making money which allowed more time for leisure. In the 1920’s came a new era of music called jazz. Jazz changed writing, fashion, the way people spent their free time, it changed peoples thoughts and attitudes towards life and towards racial discrimination. The Great Gatsby portrays the wealth and prosperity of America along with the leisure time the rich had to enjoy music.
The world and our culture is constantly evolving and developing—becoming something fresh and new. From time to time, there are intervals of great change like the 1920’s, in which we learn about all the new fashions, new technologies, new roles of women, and prohibition. Rarely do we hear of the development in dance during this time despite how crucial it was to the dance world today. This is the time when many new styles emerged and those that had already existed underwent quite the evolution from what it used to be. The Roaring twenties refers to the decade of 1920 when society was flourishing culturally and economically. This was when new technologies such as the automobile and telephone were being introduced and when artistically, it was booming. Hollywood was growing at a rapid pace because the newly established art form of entertaining, the movie, was a huge success.
